The Lit List is committed to recognizing and awarding the outstanding work of photographers who are womxn, femmes, trans, non-binary people of color, or otherwise marginalized artists.

Frustrated with the photo awards scene and determined to uplift our own, the Authority Collective, in partnership with Diversify.Photo, has created a merit-based list of photographers in response to the consistent lack of recognition of marginalized artists.
Nominations came from other photographers as well as photo editors, reps, and visual, art and creative directors. The jury consists of industry decision-makers of color and allies — including Zora J Murff of Strange Fire Collective, Paloma Shutes of California Sunday magazine, Siobhán Bohnacker of The New Yorker, and Noelle Flores-Theard of Magnum Foundation.

The Lit List proudly showcases the work of 30 must-watch image-makers who have flown under the industry’s radar.

The Authority Collective is a group of womxn, femmes, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people of color reclaiming their authority in the photography, film and VR/AR industries. Our mission is to empower marginalized artists with resources and community, and take action against systemic and individual abuses in the world of lens-based editorial, documentary and commercial visual work.

Diversify Photo is an initiative from Brent Lewis and Andrea Wise with help from Jehan Jillani, Jennifer Samuel, and Elijah Walker. Diversify.Photo was born out of a recognition that calling for more diversity in the photo industry is not enough. To diversify photo, we need to equip Art Buyers, Creative Directors, and Photo Directors with resources to discover photographers of color available for assignments and commissions.
